Motor Disruption in Autism: Insights for Practice, Intervention, and Research
2nd June 2016, Technology and Innovation Centre, University of Strathclyde
Thank you to those who attended our first seminar on 2nd June, and a big thank you to our speakers, supporters, and organisers.
Our seminar held on 2 June, Motor Disruption in Autism: Insights for Practice, Intervention, and Research, aimed to improve practical health understanding of the role of movement in autism spectrum disorder, creating genuine dialogue between research and practice. New evidence shows movements are fundamentally disrupted, and a possible aetiological origin of autism. This seminar, funded by the Scottish Government’s Innovation in Autism, brought to Scotland the world’s best research, psychiatric expertise, and practical experience, shedding light on the motor disorder in autism, gaining some new insights for improved practice.
Based on feedback we have received so far, we will now hold a second seminar to compliment the first one, making the next one a smaller, more focussed workshop-style symposium that will allow conversations to be developed between practitioners and researchers. This symposium will be held on the 21st of April 2017. Our keynote speaker for this event will be excellent, giving the right inspiration and information on the types and effects of motor disruption to be helpful in practice.
